The Basic Skincare Rules

Double cleansing
To start, try using an oil cleanser, which will help to dissolve any makeup, sunscreen, pollution, and sebum that sits on the surface of your skin. Next, use a water-based cleanser to help remove any water-based impurities such as dirt, sweat, or other nasty substance. When combined, this one-two punch should help to penetrate your skin and allow any active ingredients in your cleanser to work uninterrupted.
Applying products in the right order
To get the order right, use a general rule to always apply the lightest products first before moving on to thicker formulas at the end of your routine. If you need a little guidance on which step to take when, here’s an order that I think most effective:
Cleanser
Toner
Serum
Spot treatment
Eye Cream
Moisturizer
Oil
SPF
It depends on your skin need and skin care routine, you can reduce or increase the step. For example:
1. A sheet mask or DIY mask after toner and before serum.
2. An exfoliator before or after toner
Know Your Skin Type
Understanding your skin’s own unique requirements will enable you to find the right products that will work the best for you. Everyone has his or her own unique skin, and while that may change over time, there are specific skin type categories you can use as a general guideline to help you find the right kind of skincare product.
You can do your research to find out what skin type you have or simply try this method:
This at-home test allows you to understand your skin type by observing how your skin behaves after cleansing.
To start, wash your face with a gentle cleanser, then gently pat it dry.
Wait 30 minutes.
If your skin appears shiny throughout, you likely have oily skin.
If it feels tight and is flaky or scaly, you likely have dry skin.
If the shine is only in your T-zone, you probably have combination skin.
If your skin feels hydrated and comfortable, but not oily, you likely have normal skin.
Take the Time to Exfoliate
Taking the time to regularly exfoliate – meaning at least once a week – will help to remove dead skin cells that block your pores, while also working to improve skin cell renewal. Not only will regular exfoliation remove dead skin cells and the type of dirt and bacteria that contributes to breakouts, it will also help to brighten your complexion and enable the products you use to penetrate deeper.
How frequently you should exfoliate really depends on your skin type. If you deal with oily skin, you can try exfoliating between two or three times a week. Conversely, if you deal with dry skin, you may only need to cleanse once a week.
Make sure you never scrub using too much force as that will damage your skin. Instead, apply only gentle pressure and use warm, not hot, water.
Always Wear Sunscreen
Sunscreens are designed to protect your skin in the sun, filtering out harmful ultraviolet radiation. They are still the first and best line of defense against premature aging from the sun.
Sunscreens can help prevent three types of damage from the sun's rays:
Sunburn
Skin cancer
Premature aging
Whether these creams and lotions can help you avoid wrinkles, age spots, and other symptoms of premature skin aging depend on which type of ultraviolet radiation they block.
Types of UV Radiation
Ultraviolet rays contain three types of radiation:
UVA
UVB
UVC
While both UVA and UVB contribute to skin damage, UVA rays are now known to cause premature skin aging—resulting in wrinkles, changes in skin texture, and uneven pigmentation. UVB is primarily responsible for skin burning.
The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommends a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. There are different type of sunscreen. Hope you can find what is best for your skin.
